Pregnancy is a beautiful thing. Having a baby is a beautiful thing. However, the aftermath isn’t always pretty. Pregnancy is pretty hard on your body and the result isn’t always as desirable as we might like. Of course there are those women that are able to rebound from pregnancy and look fabulous again in no time. However, for the rest of us, here are 5 Ways that Pregnancy Wrecks Your Body.
Stretch Marks. If your children were large babies like mine were, you may have been rather large during pregnancy. (I personally felt like a whale with both of my pregnancies). This means that your skin will have to stretch in order to accommodate your growing baby. Unfortunately, sometimes that skin stretches a little too far and you are left with stretch marks.
Extra Skin. This is similar to the stretch marks. Your skin may stretch rather dramatically and sometimes it takes a while for it to rebound. You may be left with some saggy skin for months or years after having your babies. In fact, your skin might never tighten up to where it was before having children.
Extra Weight. During pregnancy you are bound to gain some weight. With my first son, I retained a lot of water and I gained almost 90 pounds! With my second son, I only gained 25 pounds. Most women will lose this weight within months of giving birth, but for some others, they will never again be back to their pre pregnancy weight.
Dark Circles/Bags Under Eyes. Lack of sleep can be draining. Even if your little bundle of joy sleeps through the night you might be exhausted from all of the addition work that you have to do including laundry, cleaning up messes, and whatever else. This may leave your eyes with dark circles under them, or even bags under them. Thankfully, they make concealer for this purpose.
Light Bladder Leakage. This is probably the most embarrassing of them all. Both when I was pregnant and even afterwards, sneezing could make me pee a little. Laughing until I peed a little? Yep, that was something I totally understood too. There were times that it was just a drop, and other times it was enough to look like I peed my pants. Talk about embarrassing.
Instead of thinking of this phenomenon as peeing your pants, think of it as what it really is, light bladder leakage (LBL). Pregnancy weakens your pelvic floor muscles which can cause small leaks which are triggered by everyday occurrences like coughing, sneezing, laughing and exercise. The thing is, you don’t have to be ashamed of it. More women than you realize go through it.
Many women protect themselves by using a regular period pad. However, who wants to use one of those everyday? They are bulky and not at all comfortable. That’s why Poise has created the new Thin-Shape pad. This pad is designed to move with your body, and features Super Absorbent Material (SAM) and a Thin-Flex design for extraordinary protection that’s still 3x drier than period pads to help you take care of leaks with confidence.
Now that you don’t need to use those period pads for LBL, what will you do with them? I decided to use my (unused!) period pads as seed starters!
