We have five cats. Yep, you read that right, we have five cats. All of them are rescues in one way or another. Tango and Spunky came from animal shelters, Tiger I found outside my graduate school apartment, Chicken Fingers was feral, and Buddy? Well, Buddy was Mike’s before we got married so after the wedding he also joined our group.
Even though there are five of them, they all are so different — and I’m not just talking about their appearance. Just like each of my human boys has their own personality, so do the cats. Some of them are smugglers, some are mischievous, but all of them are family.
They all love to play and they all get into things. I feel as if I am always trying to come up with things to keep them entertained, and therefore out of trouble. Since there are five of them, however, I don’t want to spend a fortune on something that they will either ruin, or get bored with and no longer play with. This is when I came up with the idea for the cardboard box cat condo.
If your family is anything like mine, you probably have a lot of boxes laying around. After recently ordering several large items online, I had several even larger boxes laying around. I decided to use these boxes, as well as some duct tape and a box cutter, and create a condo for the cats. It turns out, it was actually quite easy to do.
I chose three boxes, each one slightly smaller than the last. With the largest box on the bottom, I cut a door on the one side of the box and then a hole on the top approximately half the size of the opening on the next box. This will create a ledge for the cats to sit on.
Then, you will put the next box on top of the first one. Just put the box upside down over the hole that you have already made. Tape down the flaps in order to secure it.
I wanted to give the cats a little bit of extra space above where the ledge is, so I cut a hole in the top of the second box and stacked another smaller box with a window I had cut in it on top. You also need to secure this box with duct tape. I topped the condo off with some cute new play toys as well as some feathers on a stick.
I wanted to warm the cats up to the new condo so I introduced them to to it with some containers of Purina Muse® Natural Cat Food available exclusively at PetSmart. I love feeding my cats this wet food since the cats not only love the taste, but I also know that is is made from natural products which is better for my cats.
