Thanks to Fertility Planit for sponsoring this post and giving me a Clearblue® Fertility Monitor. While I have received compensation for this post, all opinions are my own.
So, I finally had the chance to start using my Clearblue® Fertility Monitor. In case you missed it, I talked about when trying to conceive E we used the charting method. While it was obviously successful, I can’t say that it was ideal. The Clearblue® Fertility Monitor is seriously a game-changer. It takes all of the guesswork out of determining which are the best days to get pregnant.
Now, back to actually using the monitor. You have to set up the monitor when you start a new cycle. This meant I had to wait two weeks to actually start tracking my fertility. Once I actually started a new cycle, though, it was really easy to set up. After inputting basic information such as the date and time, I then had to set a six hour testing window.
It’s important to use your first morning urine, so you will want to set the testing window early enough so if you get up during the night to go to the bathroom you can test, but not so early that you might sleep through the window. You also want to keep in mind if you tend to sleep in on the weekends. I set mine for between 4 AM and 10 AM, because who am I kidding? I have two small kids. I’m lucky to sleep in until 8, let alone 10!
Anyway, after you begin a new cycle you need to wait until Day 6 to do the first test stick. In the meantime, you can input daily information such as whether you are experiencing any bleeding, or whether or not you have had sex. This information helps the monitor to learn more about your cycles in order to predict when is the best time for getting pregnant. Remember, I told you before that with each cycle, this monitor actually learns.
The fact that this monitor not only tells you when you are fertile but also eliminates the need for other ovulation calculators, calendars, and apps is great. I used to hate trying to remember what my temperature was that morning when I later would enter it into the chart.
At first, my husband was a little unsure about using the fertility monitor, but now that we are actually using it, he thinks it’s kind of neat. Plus, it takes the guesswork out of trying to conceive. We know the days that are best for conception, which allows the rest of the month to be more relaxed and spontaneous. Because of this, the whole conception process seems less like work, or a chore, and allows it to be more relaxed and fun.
Even though I’ve only been using the monitor for a week, I’m really excited about it. Maybe it feels like I’m getting one up on Mother Nature, but it really does feel empowering, as if I’m taking charge of my own uterus. (Ok, that might sound a little dramatic.) I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the month goes and what the results are.

Second, Thank you for posting this post about the fertility monitor. I have always wondered about purchasing a monitor vs. charting or using phone or tablet apps. Please let us know how things go as you use it I am totally interested. I am new to your blog and will be keeping up now 😉
