I’ve been a Disney fan for years. There’s something about the villains in those movies that’s just, well, scary! But have you ever wondered what happened to those villains after their defeat in the movies?
In the newest Disney Channel Original Movie, Descendants, we find out that King Beast and Queen Belle have married and united the Disney kingdoms into the United States of Auradon. Meanwhile, all of the villains, sidekicks, and accomplices, after their defeat, are exiled to the Isle of the Lost. However, when the teenage children of some of the most infamous of the villains (Maleficent, Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella de Vil) are allowed back to Auradon in order to attend prep school alongside some of the children of the famous Disney heroes, they hatch a plan to try to help their evil parents.
The question is, will the children follow in their parents’ footsteps or will they choose to embrace their inner goodness and save the kingdom?
We’ve been at the beach all this week and the one day it rained in the afternoon. This meant that it was the perfect time to watch Descendents! So we grabbed the DVD, gathered some snacks, and settled in on the couch.
There are four Disney villains and their children which are featured in the movie. These are:
- Mal: She is the daughter of Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent, she is the leader of the group. She enjoys drawing and casting spells (as needed, of course!).
- Evie: She is the daughter of the Evil Queen from Snow White. She can communicate with her magic mirror and is a bit of a fashionista.
- Carlos: He is the son of the doggone infamous Cruella de Vil. He’s witty, smart, but naturally, he’s afraid of dogs!
- Jay: The son of ex-Royal Vizier, Jafar, Jay has a talent for stealing and scheming, as well as sports.
We decided to make a bit of a game out of the movie. Before the movie, we filled four glasses with clear soda colored with food coloring to represent each of the characters. Mal was purple, Evie was blue, Jay was red, and Carlos was clear. I also taped each of the character’s symbols to their corresponding cups. We each then picked the cup (character) that we guessed would stay true to their inner goodness. Just for the record, I picked Mal since Maleficent is, in my opinion, one of the scariest villains!
It is just a silly little game, but it made each of us root for the character we picked and helped us be a little more invested in the movie.
Another fun aspect to the DVD that we purchased was that it came with a free Isle of the Lost bracelet which had each characters symbols on it. I’m going to be honest, both boys were fighting about who got to wear it! In addition, we picked with the Descendants soundtrack which, after watching the movies, I am sure that the boys will want to listen to the whole way home!
I’m not going to tell you who won our “game” of which character stayed true to their inner goodness — you will have to watch the movie for yourself for that. You can pick up both the Descendants DVD and soundtrack in the media section of your local Walmart.
Comment On: Who was your favorite Disney’s Descendants character? Who would you root for to stay true to their inner goodness?
I was a big fan of Evie! I loved her fashionistaness, and her ending was so cute. #client
