I love the idea of upcycling. I love being able to take something that would otherwise be thrown away and turn it into or use it for something useful. Even things that you might not think to be useful can be.
Take a nice cup of hot tea, for example. I love being able to sit down with a nice cup of Bigelow Peppermint tea at the end of a long day. Most people, after making that cup of tea, just throw away the tea bag. That tea bag still has life left in it though!
Instead of throwing the tea bag away, you can instead use the bags to make tea-stained gift tags and cards. These tags and cards are the perfect way to add vintage-style charm to these cards and tags.
I began by steeping several previously used peppermint tea bags in a pot of boiling water. I let the tea bag steep for about 15 minutes in order to extract as much tea as possible.
After extracting the tea from the tea bags, I poured the tea into a pan and soaked several tags and cards in the liquid. I allowed them to soak for about 10 minutes.
As soon as you pull the cards and tags out you will see the tea-stained look, but you will want to hang them to dry overnight.
Decorating the Tags
After the tags and cards have dried, you now have a unique vintage tea-stained look to the tags and cards, but you aren’t done yet. (Pro Tip: If the cards and tags are a little bit wavy due to being in the liquid, just run an iron over them to get them back to being flat.) Now it is time to decorate the tags! Of course, there is no right way to recreate these tags. This means you should just pull out your markers, glitter, and other decorating materials.
I decided to make a Valentine’s Day card as well as some page markers for my journal with the gift tags.
I drew a line approximately one third of the way up the tag. I then covered this their with Mod Podge and sprinkled glitter all over the tag.
Some cute ideas for the cards include using doilies, glitter, and colored markers However, I decided to do the Valentine’s Day theme. I painted a heart-shape in the center of the card using a paint brush and some Mod Podge. I then sprinkled glitter all over the heart. Using a marker I wrote “Love.” underneath the heart.
Whether you decided to make a card, a tag, or both, not you have a beautiful, personalized gift.

Comment On: What do you do to tea proudly?
What a great way to upcycle a tea bag! I love that they can be used for so many different things. The glitter makes the whole tag. Gorgeous! #client
