Are you a shark fan? I remember when I was growing up one of my good friends loved sharks. She had posters, tooth collections, and even her AOL screen name was dedicated to sharks. Even though that was more than 15 years ago, sharks seem to still be as popular as ever. Google Trends reports that sharks hold the number one spot for animal search terms and school aged children regularly list sharks as some of their favorite animals — right up there with dinosaurs. This doesn’t even mention the wild popularity of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week.
If your child also loves sharks, then he or she will love the new book Surf Sharks: First Ride! Written by comic book artist and toy designer, Chance Wolf, this book follows the comedy adventures of a group of young surfers and sharks who forge a friendship and ride the waves together as they help each other solve daily challenges faced by all growing kids.
This book is perfect for kids ages 6 to 12 and would make a perfect early reader book. When kids are starting out reading, it is important to find books that are fun and relatable. With bright and colorful illustrations and fun characters, kids will be sure to eat this book up.
Surf Sharks: First Ride is available in all major bookstores and online via Amazon Kindle and iTunes/iBooks in ebook version. In addition, connect with Surf Sharks through their website where you can watch videos of the author drawing the sharks as well as shark facts, puzzles, and to join the Surf Club! The second book in the series is also in production, so connect with Surf Sharks on Facebook in order to get any updates and announcements!
Now, just in time for Shark Week, which starts in August, not to mention the start of school, I get to give away a Surf Sharks prize pack which includes:
- A copy of the Surf Sharks: First Ride book

My son likes turtles.
I have two boys 5 and 3. We have a ton of sharks in our house, but also a lot of other animals.
My boys loves all kinds of animals, and I’m not sure they could pick a favorite. However, I can say that a top choice these days (much to my chagrin), is anything creepy, crawly, slimy, etc. As a matter of fact, when a friend arrived at the house yesterday, my son informed her that there was a group of scorpions in the corner… she flipped. Thankfully, he was playing make-believe… however, I’m not sure she was ever comfortable.
My son loves fish of all kinds but also loves tigers and giraffes.
