Teaching my children the true meaning of Christmas and Easter is very important to me. It can be easy to allow the holidays to become watered down by secular symbols that really have no deeper meaning.
This is one of the reasons I love teaching stories such as The Easter Story Egg, which is from the makers of the Star From Afar activity set. Drawing from a traditional Easter symbol, the Easter egg, it tells the real story of Easter through seven wooden nesting eggs and a hardcover book.
Each egg within the large nesting egg relates to a different day in Holy Week, leading up to Easter Sunday. The story begins on Palm Sunday with the first egg and the last egg is opened on Easter Sunday. Each day your children will open a new egg and discover the story of Easter and the journey of Jesus.
This activity can be used in two ways: open an egg each day of Holy Week or read the entire book at once! Regardless of how you choose to use the Easter Story Egg, it is a great way to familiarize your children with the Easter story.
I had the opportunity to check out this set with my two boys and they loved it. They enjoyed opening each of the eggs and learning a little more about the story.
In addition, the eggs are really beautifully made and are the kind of quality that will last for years.
You can purchase the Easter Story Egg online at the Star From Afar website for $34.99. Whether it be as a gift for children or adults, the Easter Story Egg helps us to remember the true meaning of Easter.
*I received a complimentary copy of the Easter Story Egg to facilitate my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
I find it sad that Easter and Christmas have become so commercialized that most kids these days only associate the occasions with Santa and Easter Bunnies.
