Did you know that of all the senses, scent is the strongest? Even though a newborn isn’t old enough to see as an adult does, he can still determine his mother just by her unique scent. This keen sense of smell continues even as we get older.

Just a brief whiff of a certain fragrance or scent can transport us back to another place and time. The same is true with remembering people.

This is why giving cologne (or perfume if you are shopping for a special lady) is such a great Christmas gift. Not only will they smell great when they are wearing it, but when you smell it when they aren’t around it will make you think of them.

This year for Christmas I purchased one of the Stetson Original cologne gift sets. I love that Stetson has a rugged, masculine scent but at the same time isn’t too perfume or overpowering. I have mentioned before that my husband frequently travels for his job. In fact, when he is out of town I’ll often sleep on his pillow so I can feel as if he is still here with me.

I thought another cute and unique gift for the boys would be some “Memory Bears.” I found two large, cuddly bears but instead of just having Mike give the boys the bears, I had him dab some of the cologne on the bears’ bellies.

This way, on the nights when Mike is traveling and not home to tuck the boys in at night, they can cuddle up with the bears and feel like daddy is close by. It also helps remind them that daddy loves them and misses them even when he isn’t home.

I know that I have so many childhood memories of people or places that can be conjured up with just a certain fragrance. This is why I want to pass it on to my children with their Memory Bears — plus the gift set makes a fantastic gift for my husband too!
