It is amazing how quickly time goes by. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was planning Little E’s first birthday party, and now, not too long from now I’ll be planning his 5th birthday!
The first birthday party is so special though and I had so much fun planning it. I remember I started planning months in advance as I wanted it to be perfect. Of course, the first matter of business was choosing the perfect theme.
Since this was the first birthday, after all, I wanted to pick something that was cute but not too babyish. That is why I picked a baby jungle animal these. I had so much fun both shopping for the decorations as well as making them. We even made special jungle animal chocolate lollipops to give out as favors!
Of course, the first birthday is a big deal so we invited tons of our friends and family. As the years have gone by, the parties have become a little lower-key and more focused on just friends of Little E. However, having so many loved ones present for that first birthday is priceless.
My favorite memory (and pictures!) of that party was the smash cake. Little E wasn’t sure what to make of it at first. He began by just taking a fingerful of icing, but after he tasted that he dug right in! He was grabbing fistfuls of cake and shoving them in his mouth.
By the time he was done, I literally had to take him up to the bathtub, bathe him, and change his entire outfit!
Even though that first birthday was almost four years ago, I appreciate the fact that I know Babies “R” Us can be my one stop shop for all of my party needs.
Not only could I find decorations and gifts that I needed, but I could also outfit my little one too. I picked up a box of Pampers, since they are my go-to when you want to make sure your little one stays comfortable and leak-free. Plus, Babies “R” Us has a huge selection of adorable clothes to dress your birthday boy (or girl) in.
Another first birthday must-have that you can pick up at Babies “R” Us is a bottle of Dreft. If you are like me, you will want to save that party outfit but you will need help getting that smash cake residue out of it. That’s why you need to pick up up a bottle of Dreft Stage 2: Active Baby. This formula helps to remove 99% of baby food stains.

Having a smash cake photo session would be fun!
Having friends and family attend and having fun with a smash cake.
Taking lots of photos and videos and just letting the baby be himself/herself and capturing all those fun moments.
I love the smash cake idea, I did it with my oldest son in a photo studio, with my second son at home, and I plan to do it with my third son as well next summer.
