“One cat just leads to another.” — Ernest Hemingway
I am a crazy cat lady. Ok, maybe not that crazy cat lady, but I do have five cats. Yep, you read that right, five. All are rescues and all five have interesting, and unique personalities.
My first cat I adopted when I was a senior in college. My boyfriend and I went to one of the local animal shelters to see what sort of animals they had. Of course there were quite a few cats there. I looked at them all, but one stood out to me. The shelter workers had told me that this particular cat had been there a while and that he needed a good home. He came right over to me and rolled over on his back for me to scratch his belly. I knew that this was the one.
Tango, this first cat, is shy, and has a lot of trouble trusting people. In fact, unless you are part of his “inner circle” it would be rare to even see him! For as shy as he is, he also had the ability to make me laugh. One time I couldn’t find Tango anywhere in the apartment. I looked under all of the furniture and in all of his usual hiding spots. Image my surprise when I walked into the bathroom and saw him curled up, sleeping in the sink! Another time I couldn’t find him and after once again searching my apartment, I found him sitting on a plant shelf in my kitchen.
Apparently as the famous cat-lover Ernest Hemingway once said, one cat really does lead to another. A year and a half after adopting Tango I was beginning to think that I would like to get another cat. I had visited some of the local animal shelters just to see what sort of cats they had. That’s when I found a super-cute, cheeky, little white cat that I knew I just had to have. He was a bit of a runt but he was full of life. He and Tango bonded well and became best friends as you can see from the photo.
So I had two cats. I thought that was plenty. Then I found him. He was so thin, looked beat up, and was hanging out by my front porch. I am such a softie for animals (and of course) children in need, so I immediately took him in. Today, Tiger is probably one of my cuddliest, most outgoing cats.
Ok, so I had three cats. That was plenty.
The only problem is that when I started dating my (future) husband he had a cat too. So of course when we decided to get married neither of us were going to get rid of our feline friends, plus his cat, Buddy, got along well with mine, so we just ended up with four cats.
Ok, we are done for sure. Right? Well, I was absolutely not planning on having anymore cats. Like I said though, I am a complete softie for animals and we had some feral cats that used to live in the woods behind our old house. It was a bitter cold winter night and I came home from work to find one of the runt kittens huddled up against our door. This kitten, who had never let me touch him before, allowed me to pick him up and bring him in the house. Needless to say, Chicken Fingers became our fifth and final cat.
As you can see, these cats are not only our pets, but are part of our family. They have been with me through so many of my life’s milestones: graduating college, my first job, breaking up with boyfriends, meeting my husband, getting married, moving, and the birth of my two sons. So when it comes to feeding them, I want to give them healthy cat food that is high quality and not made with animal by-product. That is why the Rachael Ray Nutrish for Cats is such a wonderful option.
In 2008, Rachael began working with a team of pet nutrition experts to launch her line of Nutrish pet foods which are made with simple, wholesome ingredients. This cat food contains real meats like chicken fish is always the #1 ingredient in these delicious recipes. There’s never any junk like meat by-products, artificial flavors, or preservatives. With dry formulas that include Chicken & Brown rice and exciting wet flavors like Chicken Purrcata and Ocean Fish-a-licious, your cat will be sure to find a new favorite.
To prove this, I enlisted the help of two of my most outgoing cats, Tiger and Buddy. Instead of just their plain Purina, I had them taste test the new Rachael Ray cat food. I put both the Nutrish wet and dry food on their plates, and as you can see in the video, they licked the plates clean!
Nutrish for Cats can be found at your local grocery store, as well as at Walmart and Target, for an average price of $7.49 for a 3 pound bag of dry food and $0.94 to $1.09 for a 2.8 ounce cup of wet food. You can print out some money-saving coupons HERE.
Since chicken was the theme for dinner that night, our family decided to make some Easy Chicken Stir Fry.
[yumprint-recipe id=’4′]Another great option if you want to be even more matchy-matchy with you cat is the Rachael Ray’s Chicken Teriyaki Chicken. This recipe features a homemade teriyaki sauce and served over brown whole grain rice. Yum! You can find the full recipe HERE.
In addition when you purchase the Nutrish pet food you are helping pets in need. With the purchase of the Rachael Ray Nutrish you will be helping to support Rachael’s Rescue, which has already raised more than $6 million to help animals in need. This money has gone toward food, medical supplies, and treatment for forgotten pets.
Find Nutrish for Cats at a store near you and treat your cats to the best cat food. Follow Nutrish on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Hmm – were those cats really hugging? What a cute picture. I, too, am a cat lover. Sadly, both of my boys are allergic to cats, so when my most recent feline companions passed away, we were unable to add new feline family members. HOWEVER, both boys are on allergy shots, and my oldest (who is 5) keeps saying that he is getting his shots so he can get a cat some day!
One things I can say is that the trend towards higher-quality cat foods is new… and good. I will definitely be feeding any new feline family members much higher quality food than in the past.
The only drawback I see to Nutrish is the packaging… no can opener? While that is certainly much easier for me, how will the cats know dinner is ready if they don’t hear the can opener running? We always called that the cat “dinner bell” in our house. 🙂
It does look as if they are hugging! Everyone thinks that I staged that picture but I swear it is 100% authentic. We just went into my bedroom (this is back in the college days when I lived at home in the summer) and they were like that!
My cats would love the Chicken Purcata. What cute names.
My kitty would like the Ocean Fish & Chicken Catch-iatore the best!
