I have learned over the past year some pretty awesome toilet tips and tricks that have come in handy to helping me have a nice and fresh bathroom, as well as preventing issues. As a single mom, I have to handle all the household issues that arise, and I do my best to keep the clogs and issues with my toilet to a minimum.
Calling a plumber is great but it can cost quite a bit, depending on the issue. So, I have learned how to handle a few things on my own to try and prevent a big bill later.
6 Secret Toilet Tips and Tricks to Try
Freshen Up Your Toilet
Have an unexpected guest on their way? Instead of cleaning your toilet bowl with a cleaner that will leave a lasting smell, grab your toothpaste. Squirt some in the toilet and use that to clean any mess, and it will leave your bathroom smelling minty fresh!
Alka Seltzer
Drop two tablets in the toilet, let it fizz and come back in 15-20 minutes and use your toilet wand to clean your toilet! This works great the little bubbles help break away scum and hard water stains.
Hard Water Stains
If you have some calcium buildup or hard water stains reach for your vinegar. Put some toilet paper on the stain and then soak it in white distilled vinegar, and let it sit overnight. Then flush and the buildup should be gone. Repeat as needed.
Disinfect Naturally
Pour 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide into your toilet bowl and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then clean and flush to disinfect and get rid of any germs floating around.
Toilet Handle
When you go to clean your toilet don’t forget to get the chrome handle shining! Grab some baby oil and use it to wipe down the handle with a soft cloth, it will make it shine! This works great on all faucet handles as well.
Base of Toilet
Mix up some baking soda with fresh lemon juice and use this as a cleaner for around the base of your toilet. It will help eliminate any odors from urine and get it nice and clean. You can turn around and clean with a cleaner or even a vinegar soap base if you want it even cleaner.
