I can’t believe that my oldest son started kindergarten last week. It seems like he isn’t old enough for that yet. However, with the start of this new journey to school it also means that we will have to create a little more structure around the house. With all of the rushing around in the mornings trying to get ready, this also means that it will be important to maintain healthy routines — for both myself and the children.

No matter what the age, healthy brushing is important. This is why the boys and I make shopping for new toothpaste and toothbrushes part of our back to school routine. This year, we went out and they both picked out a new toothbrush and I purchased new toothbrush heads. This year, I am trying to live a healthier, more natural life, so I decided to purchase Tom’s of Maine toothpaste for both myself and the boys.

Did you know that using a cup or traditional toothbrush holder can actually promote the spread of germs? Germs can easily pass from one toothbrush to another when they are kept in close proximity. Of course, I want to keep my family as healthy as possible so I went in search of a better option.

I liked the idea of using small cups which could keep the brushes separate. I also wanted something that could be washed in case of illness. That’s how I came up with the idea of this primitive style toothbrush holder.

Creating a Primitive Style Toothbrush Holder

You will need to head to your local craft and hardware stores in order to get the supplies you will need for this project. You will need:

  • Piece of pallet wood to make a sign
  • Small wooden letters
  • Three small glass jars
  • Three pipe clamps
  • Three small screws

Before you begin the project you will want to start by laying everything out on the piece of pallet wood. This will make sure that you don’t place anything so that it would interfere or cover up anything else.

To attach the pipe clamps to the piece of pallet wood, use a small screw and screw it into the wood through a space in the clamp. There is usually an open groove in the back of the clamp which would work perfectly.

You will want to find the center of the pallet sign. Place the letters so they spell out the word “BRUSH” and are centered on the sign. Use hot glue to glue down the letters.

Insert the glass jar so that the clamp is around it. Use a flathead screwdriver to adjust the clamp so that it fits tight around the jar. Makes sure it is tight enough that the jar will not fall out.

The best part is that these jars can be removed if they begin to get dirty or if someone gets sick. Just use the flathead screwdriver to loosen the clamp, remove the jar and wash it, then put it back, and retighten.

You can hang this sign on a wall, put it on a shelf, or put it any other creative place to not only keep your toothbrushes clean but also to help make brushing fun.

Love It? Pin It!

This year I have decided that I want a whiter, brighter smile so I decided to make using Tom’s of Maine® Luminous White™ Toothpaste Spearmint part of my brushing routine.

I’m so excited that Tom’s of Maine® has this new whitening toothpaste. I’ve long loved Tom’s of Maine® because of their natural personal and oral care products which are made with no artificial colors, flavors, fragrances, or preservatives, nor are they tested on animals.

Luminous White™ is Tom’s of Maine’s® most advanced whitening toothpaste and is not only safe on enamel but is also safe for everyday use.

You can purchase Tom’s of Maine® Luminous White™ Toothpaste Clean Mint at your local Martin’s in the oral care aisle.
