How to Use Parsley to Induce a PeriodBefore I begin, I want to emphasize that this post should not be taken as medical advice. It is simply a remedy that I tried and it happened to work. DO NOT try if you might be pregnant as it could potentially cause a miscarriage. This is simply to induce a period.

I had recently stopped hormonal birth control and my period was wonky. I had been spotting for days and I just wanted my period to start so I could get it over with.

I tried using the method of taking large doses of Vitamin C but all it seemed to do was cause cramping. No thank you.

I really wanted to get this period started and begin to get things back on track. I scoured the intent and found that parsley is actually very good a jump-starting a period. Supposedly, it works because parsley is a mild emmenagogue which stimulates menstruation (you learn something every day).

I again want to mention that this post is not medical advice and this remedy should only be used if pregnancy is not the cause for delay. If you are pregnant using parsley could cause a miscarriage.

I purchased some fresh, flat parsley for this. You can purchase it in the fresh produce section of your local grocer. I’ve also heard of people using the dried flakes but fresh is more potent and more likely to give you the results that you are looking for.

In a pot, bring water to a boil. While the water is heating up, wash the parsley and finely chop it — even the stalks. After the water is at a boil, turn the temperature to medium and put in the parsley.

Allow the parsley to steep in the water for about 20 minutes or so. You will want the water to be a greenish yellow. The darker the color the better. However, be sure not to burn off all of the water!

Pour the living and the leaves into a glass and allow to cool until drinkable. Then drink the tea as well as the parsley itself.

I’m going to warn you, this tea tastes pretty nasty. I’ve hear of some people trying to use sugar or honey to make it more palatable, but honestly its pretty bad either way — especially the leaves.

Try to drink this tea approximately 4 times a day or until your period starts. I have used this method twice and both times my period started within a day and a half of when I started to drink the tea.

As I said before, this isn’t medical advice, I am just going off of my own experiences and what my successes were. Let me know whether you were successful in the comments section below!

  1. I used this to jump start my cycle…..and it worked over night! I’m just hoping it doesn’t last longer than it should. Has that happened to you or was your cycle the normal timeframe? Thanks!

  2. I tired this and was pleased with the results, I was using Black cohosh at the same time and a treatment of acupuncture along with it. Definitely try to use more environmentally friendly methods than tampax, your body will aslo thank you for that 🙂

  3. I used this many, many years ago, at least twice, and it worked back then. Back then, I used tea bags.
Now many, many years later, I used it again just yesterday. This time, I used fresh parsley. (I didn’t cut it up or anything – I read this article after I’d already made it) I made tea ( I let it steep for about 20 minutes) and had two cups throughout the evening. I noticed small results before bed and full results by morning. I’m having another cup tonight, but I didn’t make it strong., at all. It’s soothing and refreshing

  4. I used the fresh parsley boil method by accident (diet cleanse) and oh boy it worked like by nightfall… So curious to see if intentionally it would work but this time with flakes and it did again… Within half a day. Then again I tried because I STILL wasn’t convince just thinking it was a mere couple of coincidences so I tried with a lot more flakes and FML ?. I wasn’t ready… ?
So just adding my two cents that this method has always worked for me but I’ve learned that I have to be careful with the amount of fresh or dried parsley I use, as I see using more parsley created more cramps ?. Again I concur with the original poster… I’m not a medical professional nor am I insisting that you try this but just providing validity to the results of this method.

  5. I tried this before my long distance BF visit. Not boiled just hot water over fresh parsley to make the tea. I added ginger and honey for taste and really did not mind the taste at all. I drank 5 cups on day one, 4 cups on day 2 and three. For an extra boost of parsley I added a load to a smoothy with pineapple (pineapple was suggested elsewhere for the same purpose). Sadly it did not work as hoped. Some cramps. Flushed me out (so felt a bit thinner at least) but no bleeding. In fact I ended up being 2 days late. As a result instead of having 1 day of my period during his visit I was on it the whole weekend :(. Oh well worth a go I guess.

  6. When i was in the middle of gaining weight, changing sleeping patterns coz i work at night drastic changes caused my period from a regular cycle to irregular. I was almost at a point thinking i was pregnant for i was delayed almost 2 weeks. I used PT a plenty of times to check if i was pregnant but no. So i saw this parsley tea online read about it and tried it. This has been the answer to induce menstruation eversince really works well.

  7. Guys. This stuff really does work! My period was supposed to start Thursday the 24th, me ain’t the my heaviest day would be on Friday. The exact same night as my friend’s party! I was so upset! Luckily I have a pretty light flow and if my period started a couple days early it would be practically gone before the party! I drank this tea as a last resort! I drank two cups the 1st night (the 20th). On the second day (the 21st) I drank 3 cups of parsley tea and 3 cups of raspberry leaf tea and had a hot bath. The third day (the 22nd) I drank one cup of tea and by noon by period was full blown! I have never been so happy to start my period! Works great! I keep drinking the tea in hopes that it will speed up my flow! We’ll see! Updates coming soon!

  8. This worked for me too! I stopped taking birth control this month and my period was a little delayed. On birth control I expected to get my period on Tuesday, but it didn’t come. I wanted to get back on my cycle so I had 2 cups of parsley tea on Wednesday, 3 on Thursday (combined with some ginger-turmeric tea) and my period started Friday morning!

  9. I stumbled on this article after being 2.5 weeks late. I know it was impossible to get pregnant because my husband and I have been apart for more than a month dealing with some deaths in our family, moving, me being in school etc. I decided to give it a shot because my period has never skipped more than 2 days in a row. The tea does not taste awful at all… grate some ginger, add honey and a slice of lemon while it’s still hot and you’ll enjoy it. I had two cups, Morning and evening for two days… I started cramping on the first day then nothing, same for the second day. I knew my period was gonna come but I didn’t even see a little spot so I decided to skip drinking it another day and I said I’d wait for a week and if I didn’t get it I’d give in and go see my doctor because I have a vacation coming up and I need to get things going. Wellllll…. I was on the job on the 3rd day the day I didn’t decide to drink the tea and I felt some sensations down there along with mild cramping again. So I was like let me try to be safe so I went to put in a tampon and when I pulled the applicator out there wassss AF! It works. Next time I won’t wait for weeks to pass before I drink it, if I skip a day I’ll follow the same recipe and kick back and relax and wait for things to happen. By the way you don’t have to eat the leaves or put it in your Vagina or anything that’s a tad extreme. The tea world just fine.

  10. Talk about a miracle tea! I was a month late and took multiple pregnancy tests and they were all negative. I’m pretty consistent and always on time so to have skipped a month was really stressful.. as the time I’d usually start my period approached this month, I decided to take action because I was just super anxious and borderline worried. I heard someone mention something about parsley tea and figured I’d give it a shot but had ZERO expectations, I was just pretty desperate at this point.

On Sunday 5/12, I rinsed and chopped a good handful of parsley.. boiled hot water.. steeped about 2/3 pinches of parsley for about 10 min and drank about 3/4 cups.

On Monday 5/13, I took another handful of parsley to work with me but didn’t get to chop this bunch up like yesterday’s. We gave a water dispenser so I just kept ripping off about a small handful of parsley in put it in my mug and filled it up with hot water. I had about 2 mugs (I used a new small handful of parsley per cup) and I kid you not – started to spot within an hr/2!!! I made about 2 more cups throughout my day at work just to finish the amount of parsley I brought but yes, my period did start to pick up. Still on the lighter end but I just woke up in the middle of the night -it’s now Tuesday 5/14- to cramps and a little more of a flow and am just in awe at how this really worked and felt that it was my duty to report this and share for the next woman in need of hope! I think just rinsing some parsley and pouring hot water over a cup will do the trick. No need to chop and steep. Good luck ladies!

  11. THIS WORKS!!!! My period is usually always, perfectly, amazingly on time. I’m not on any form of contraceptive (yet), my body just normally does this. This month my period was late, and I didn’t feel like it was coming either. I’m usually pretty good at being able to feel it coming. This month I couldn’t. That said, I was VERY worried. I took a pregnancy test on my own and had my doctor test me twice and all of them came out negative so I couldn’t understand why it was late (at this point it’d been 3 days). I’m naturally an anxious person so I decided to try to induce the period myself by drinking this tea. I had my first cup this morning around 8 AM and my second around 5 PM and by 6PM THE SAME DAY, MY PERIOD CAME! Beyond stoked. Thank you!!!!

  12. Sissies! This worked for me!

I was feeling period-like cramps 5 days past my ovulation which was weird, and I don’t usually cramp that bad (sharp ovulation pains + period cramps + terrible backaches). I only get some twinges on one or both sides due to ovulation, but nothing worse like this one. I was worried because my BF and I did it 6 days before my expected ovulation even though it’s supposed to be a safe day and we opted for withdrawal.

When I got those bad cramps and twinges, I knew something is off, and it could be implantation cramping. I did a pregnancy test on the 2nd day of cramping, but it came out negative. It might have been a false negative because I tested too early and I just want my period to come as soon as possible as an assurance that I’m not pregnant. So I tried out the parsley tea + vitamin C method.

I drank 1 cup of parsley tea on the 1st day, 2 cups on 2nd and 3rd day, and 3 on 4th day. I also combined it with the vitamin C method. Then, dark red bleeding + clots came today! I was so surprised ot worked because my period isn’t due to come in a week and my body might have needed more time and “nutrients” to thicken the uterine lining before it can shed. It now came, but still in small amounts. I’m pretty confident this is my period bleeding due to its dark red and a bit clotty nature; similar to the ones I get on my normal periods. I will still continue to drink parsley tea and vitamin C, but in lower concentrations, just so the period-like bleeding ensues.

Please note that I wasn’t very consistent with the dosages and drinking times, including the vitamin C. I was very busy and I didn’t have a proper schedule to take them. To make up for the “skipped” dosages, I double the amount of tea and vitamin C I take whenever I have the chance. There are times that I drink 2 tabs of vitamin C in 1 sitting after being occupied for some hours.

Also, I would like to note that these methods worked slower on me than the others here because I am 7 days away from my expected period. That’s a pretty long stretch for the parsley tea and vitamin C to do their magic instantly.

I advise that you just keep drinking your parsley teas and taking your vitamin C’s until period-like bleeding comes (ideally dark red with clots), or you’re at least 7 days away from your expected period like me.

Hope this helps, and thank you to everyone who shared their experience!
