Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. There is just something about the air getting cooler and the leaves changing colors that makes me want to be outside, soaking it in. I’m sure that knowing the cold winter months are just around the corner is also a motivator for getting out, about, and enjoying the last of these crisp autumn days.
Whatever your motivations is for getting out, it is just important that you get out. There are so many different ways to enjoy this time of year. To help get your creativity flowing, I’ve come up with six ways that you too can get out and enjoy the season.
Enjoy a Bike Ride
I love hitting our local bike trails in the fall. Not only is it a great way to get out and enjoy nature, but biking is also an excellent way to get some exercise. Since many bike trails are are made on the sites of former railroad tracks, they are often very scenic. Plus, when you go in the fall, the temperature is usually much more pleasant.
Take a Scenic Drive
One of my favorite roads in the areas is the historic Old Route 30. Before toll roads, bypasses, and interstates, these historic roads were the destination and not just a means to get to a destination. They were designed to allow you to enjoy the ride. You can still find some really cute restaurants, stores, motels, and of course, oddities. Take a drive, explore the sights, and stop at an overlook to see the scenery and the change of leaves.
Visit a Festival
Even thought he weather is getting cooler, there are still lots of fairs and festivals going on. Some of the most popular festivals are craft shows (think Christmas!), specialty festivals, and even Renaissance Fairs. All of these are great ways to spend an afternoon, as well as get some delicious fair food!
Watch a Football Game
Fall is the season for Friday night lights. There is something special about cheering on your favorite team, whether it is a high school team, college team, or even an NFL team. However, if you come from a large university (like I did) or are from a huge football town (like I am) it can be difficult and expensive to get college or NFL tickets. However, for a fraction of the cost, you can take your family to the local high school game and cheer on the home team. I’m sure the players, cheerleaders, and even the band will appreciate the support.
Check Out Some Halloween Activities
There are so many Halloween-themed activities at this time of year. Depending on the ages of your children, there are a variety of things to choose from. If you have older children, there are always plenty of haunted houses to choose from, ranging from professionally-designed attractions to local haunted houses designed to raise money for various causes.
If haunted houses aren’t your family’s thing, there are also activities such as hayrides, corn mazes, and also trick-or-treat events geared specifically for smaller children.
Go to the Pumpkin Patch
This is probably the most iconic of all the fall activities is visiting the pumpkin patch or pumpkin farm. Sure, you could always buy a pumpkin at the grocery store or farmer’s market, however, there is something really special about taking your family and scouring the rows of gourds in order to find the perfect one. These pumpkin farms are the usually the same place where the pumpkins are grown, so your kids can see exactly where their pumpkin comes from and how they are grown. It is not only a fun family bonding experience, but it also a good educational experience.
No matter whether you are visiting the pumpkin patch, taking a drive, or visiting a haunted house, you want to make sure that you are able to stay connected. An unexpected emergency could happen in which you need to call for assistance. You might get lost and need to check your GPS for directions. Or you might need a way to capture some of those priceless memories and could use a smartphone camera.
All of these smartphone features are great, but many people think that owning a smartphone is going to cost a fortune. The truth is, because of Walmart Family Mobile, not only are smartphone plans affordable, but so are the phones. Walmart Family Mobile service is only $29.88/month (for the first line) which includes the Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data service plan which includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data. All you have to do to get started is head to your local Walmart and purchase the $25 starter kit, choose a service plan, and a buy the phone of your choice. You can even bring your own unlocked smartphone from another network if you want!
I purchased the LG Leon LTE smartphone at Walmart. This phone is currently on Rollback for only $79.82 (from $99.84). Another great wallet-friendly option is the Alcatel One Touch Pop Astro which is currently priced at $64.88. At these prices, these phones are perfect for both school-aged children and adults alike!
Make this a fall to remember and let Walmart Family Mobile make spending quality time with your family fun (and more affordable!).
