Save Money Cell Phone PlanMy whole life I have been really into technology, which is why it might come as a surprise that I didn’t get a smartphone until last year. As in 2014.  I sort of felt as if I was the last person in America to get a smartphone — except for maybe my parents (sorry Mom and Dad!).

One of the things that always held me back from getting a smartphone was the cost. As a stay at home mom, I had trouble justifying the extra cost of a data plan. I always felt that instead of paying that extra money for a data plan, I could instead be using that money for the family. Yes, Mommy Guilt is strong.

WFP1Thankfully, as an alternative to the high-cost plans of the major carriers, there is the Walmart Family Plan. This is the perfect solution for my family as it combines high-quality phones, dependable 4G LTE service, and a data plan. The best part is the Walmart Family Plan costs only $29.88/month (for the first line) of unlimited talk and text, as well as a data service plan which includes up to 500MB of 4G LTE data. (Disclaimer: All prices for for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. Please refer to your local Walmart for current pricing.)

Since getting the smartphone, I love being able to use my data to check my e-mail when I am out and about, check the news when I am waiting at a doctor’s office, or even look up addresses and directions when I’m on the road. This makes it so much more convenient than having to call home to my husband to ask for an address to somewhere or to have him look up information for me.

WFP3Also, this has really helped my business. As a blogger, I am often updating Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram even when I am on the go. This helps me to be able to stay connected to my readers. Before having a smartphone, I had to work in time to do all of these updates while at home and juggling taking care of my kids. Now I can take advantage of downtime while in a waiting room, or even in line at the grocery store to do these things!

Signing up for the Walmart Family Plan was really easy. All I had to do was stop into my local Walmart, head to the cellular section, and look for the no-contract Walmart Family Plan section. I picked up the Alcatel Fierce 2 cell phone and the Walmart Family Plan starter kit. After I took the phone home, I was able to do the activation online. Easy peasy. Another perk of this new no-contract service is that if you already have a cell phone number that you love, you can easily bring it with you! All you have to do is let them know during the activation phase.

WFP4In the past I think I have always been a little skeptical over no-contract phone plans because I didn’t know what sort of coverage they would offer. However, since the Walmart Family Plan is powered by the T-Mobile network, I know that the coverage will be just as good as the major carriers. It is also 4G LTE service, so I know that I am covered no matter where I go. This is a major plus.

Another drawback to no-contract plans in the past was that they didn’t seem to have as much of a selection of phones as the major carriers. This is not true anymore! I’m happy to say that the Walmart Family Plan has a great selection of phones with everything from a basic phone to the touch-screen smartphones such as the Alcatel Fierce 2 that I purchased. If you have a compatible unlocked phone you can even bring your own phone!

You don’t have to sacrifice quality in order to have a great phone plan. I am so excited about this service because now I can have a smartphone with a data plan and not have to feel guilty about the extra cost.

WFP5Have you ever used a no-contract phone service?
