I like history — a lot. In fact, several years ago I published two books on the history of both my town and also that of another local town. During my research for the books, I often visited historical societies, looked through library books, or even checked out personal scrapbooks that people shared with me. The downside is that many of these resources I wasn’t able to take with me, or if I wanted a photocopy I would have to pay for it, and the quality wasn’t very good. I wish that I had a FlipPal back in those days.
FlipPal is a handy portable scanner that you can easily carry with you. I love that it is only the size of a tablet so that it can easily fit in a backpack, purse, or wherever else.
I know a lot of people that are into scrapbooking, genealogy, history, and a variety of others that could really use a product. It is fantastic for scanning items that can’t be removed from frames, or are too fragile to be removed from their protective coating. The FlipPal produces high-quality images that are able to used for other projects.
What is really unique about the FlipPal is that instead of like most flatbed scanners, where you just have a lid that you open and lay the image on the glass to scan, the FlipPal can scan from the top or the bottom. For example, if you have a 4×6 photo that you are able to actually scan, all you have to do is open the lid. However, if you are scanning an image from a book, a newspaper, or a picture in the frame, the FlipPal also can scan from the bottom!
There are tons of videos on the FlipPal website that includes testimonials from real users, tutorial videos, and videos on more creative ways to use the FlipPal.
The downside is that the FlipPal can only scan images up to 4×6 in side, although it provides software which allows you to take multiple images and “stitch” them together into one large image. Also, it would be nice if it included an AC adaptor which could be used when you are using the FlipPal on a desk or some other stationary place. Right now the only option is to use AA batteries.
Some additional features of the FlipPal:
• Battery powered. Stores scans on SD card. Compact, lightweight and durable;
• High quality digital images. 600 and 300 dpi resolutions. Color true to original;
• Push one button to scan in seconds. No computer required to scan. LCD shows scan;
• Scan small to large originals. Included EasyStitch software for larger than 4×6 inch areas;
• Scan originals in place. Patented flip-and-scan technology: remove the lid, flip the scanner over, and place it on the original.
BUY IT: When you purchase the FlipPal (RV $149.99) you will get an included 4GB memory card, batteries, software to stitch pictures together, and three window protector sheets. You can purchase carrying cases, rechargeable batteries, and additional software.
In addition, if you when you are pursuing the FlipPal website, you will see the option to purchase a Picture Keeper (purchased separately). Check out my review of the Picture Keeper to make a winning combination!
Now that’s just plain nifty! Love the compact size.
Wow! I would definitely use this! So many great pics of my dad and his brothers growing up but I always just snap a photo with my phone (which is never pretty). Oh, Santa!
