The holidays are always a hectic time. In our house, not only are we running around trying to find gifts for the three boys, but Little E’s birthday happens to be a week before Christmas. This means that we are also buying birthday gifts as well as planning a birthday party.
With so much going on, it can be easy to become overwhelmed (trust me, I have on more than one occasion). Unfortunately, during these hectic times, it sometimes becomes easy to forget about those we love most.
My husband and I have been married for five years and this will be our ninth Christmas together, and over the years we have come up with some ways to avoid some relationship pitfalls this holiday season. This is why I’ve come up with the 12 Days of Romance: 12 Heartfelt Ways To Connect With Your Spouse this Holiday Season.
Perform an Act of Service. The holidays are a crazy time of year and it can be easy to get overwhelmed. By helping your spouse out by doing things such as taking out the garbage, folding the laundry, or even making dinner, it shows that you care.
Give a massage. Even though receiving a massage always feels amazing, offer to give your spouse a massage after a particularly rough day (especially without him having to ask). I’m sure that he will be more than happy to reciprocate down the road.
Send a romantic note. Whether it be writing a note or sending a text or e-mail, just taking those few minutes to say “I’m thinking of you” can go a long way. Put some romantic undertones in the note to give your spouse something to look forward to as well as adding a sense of mystery.
Build a fire. Whether it is inside or outside, cuddling by the fire is a fabulous way to light a fire in your relationship. Grab a cup of cocoa and use that time to cuddle with your spouse.
Clip Coupons. No, I’m not talking about the kind in the Sunday paper. Instead, make up a romantic coupon book with coupons for things such as massages, desserts, and even for taking out the trash. Get creative and choose things you know your spouse would love!
Give a heartfelt gift. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive, but giving your partner a heartfelt gift is a way of letting him know that you love him and are wanting to do something special to make him happy.
Spend quality time together. Do you have a hobby that you both love? Maybe you go to a winery, have a romantic dinner out, or even just going out for a drive to look at Christmas lights. Whatever you do, it will give you time to connect with each other and have time to talk about whatever is important to each other, which is often overlooked in the chaos of day-to-day life.
Read a romantic book. Whether you are reading a romantic book together, or even just by yourself, it can put you in the mood for romance.
Go to a romantic movie. If you aren’t a book person, there is always the option of going to a romantic movie with your significant other. It gives you the opportunity to spend time as a couple.
Take time to say “I love you.” It is often easy to feel under appreciated, especially among the craziness of the holidays. Be sure to take some time to let your spouse know you love him and that you appreciate all that he does.
Make a romantic gift basket. Sometimes you need to remind your spouse of why it is you got together. You need to bring that romance back. You can put things in the basket such as candles, chocolates, sensual gifts, lubricants, and even a CD of your favorite “mood music.”
Introduce something new. Have you ever tried the K-Y® Yours+Mine® Couples Lubricants®? Using a lubricant helps to allow both partners to enjoy better intimate experiences, which could lead to better emotional intimacy and better connected relationships. Plus, it can bring some excitement to the bedroom by creating new sensations.
K-Y® Yours+Mine® Couples Lubricants® create a unique couples experience. One is a warming lubricant for him and one is a tingling lubricant for the female, and when they combine it can create an exciting experience. It is a great way to heat things up in your relationship.
You can pick up K-Y® Yours+Mine® Couples Lubricants® at your local Walmart in the personal care section. What is even better is that right now K-Y® has a coupon for $2 off a package of the K-Y® Yours+Mine® Couples Lubricants®. I used this when I picked up some for my husband and me. Needless to say, I am more than excited for my husband and me to have a little “alone time” to try it out!
